Steve Wallis is the Principal of Bluebeast Marine Fire Management specializing in the fire risk assessment and onboard training of crews on merchant and commercial vessels worldwide.
Our principal aim is to determine the levels of Emergency preparedness and identify areas of concern. This may be on behalf of the Class, Flag, Insurers or the Company/Owner itself.
Steve qualified as a physical fitness Instructor in 1988 and after 15 years as a Personal Trainer and Gym Management Coordinator he diversified into the field of marine fire fighting. This was at an initial request of an Associate to identify the physical concerns involved when performing fire fighting tasks, particularly when in full kit and Breathing Apparatus.
In 2003, Steve joined the team of FAITL, a Training Company based near Southampton in Hampshire. He began to learn the ropes and graduated through the ranks as a Senior Facilitator. In this capacity he became responsible for overseeing the complete implementation of the Emergency Preparedness infrastructure as required by International regulations on merchant shipping vessels.
He has attended over 300 vessels worldwide from Cardiff in South Wales to Dalian in China to service the fire fighting abilities of vessels that have either been detained (arrested) by the Port State Inspection or as a pre-arranged training upon request.
Having attended a further training schedule with the MCA approved Devon and Somerset Maritime & Commercial Training Centre in 2007, Steve continues to share this affiliation to remain continually updated and aware of the latest advisories and legislation as required.
As part of an Emergency response Instructional team, Steve recognized the need for a Marine Fire Risk Assessment review capability for Owners, Operators and Insurers and Bluebeast was born. Steve works closely with the UK Port State (MCA) and has regular meetings at the HO in Southampton. We continue to work closely with Fire Aid International as onboard Instructors to secure the release of detained vessels and act as consultants thereafter.
He currently works alongside two assistant Bluebeast Instructors; Mr Graham Badger and Mr Ben Houching.
Steve is also proficient in martial arts having studied Wing Chun in 1990, progressing to Jeet Kun Do, Kung Fu, Boxing, Muay Thai and finally adapting this experience to specialized “street protection” for women and now operates this as a separate entity.
He has three daughters, two granddaughters and resides on the South Coast Riviera of Bournemouth, Dorset.
