Pawel Kwiatkowski
Second Engineer Found Dead
M/Y Charisma - January 29, 2010
Pawel 'Pav' Kwiatkowski, 32, of Poland was a second engineer on board the 154-foot mega yacht M/Y Charisma which was anchored off Norman Island.
Kwiatkowski was last seen leaving the Willy Ts Bar and Restaurant, a floating bar and restaurant anchored at The Bight, at around 2330 hours on January 29. He was discovered missing by his crew members the following morning.
The body of Pawel Kwiatkowski, identified by DNA testing, was recovered off St. John's coast by someone on February 7, after being reported missing on January 30, 2010. An autopsy concluded that the cause of death was drowning.
Police have confirmed that the body recovered off the shores of St. John on Feb. 7 has been identified as a 32-year-old Polish man who had last been seen at The Bight off Norman Island. A DNA analysis conducted by medical examiners in the United States Virgin Islands positively identified the body found in the area of Privateer Bay as Pawel Kwiatkowski, police said.
After Virgin Islands Search and Rescue reported to the scene, the case was soon turned over to police after circumstances proved “suspicious,” VISAR President Phil Aspinall said.

VISAR, Blue Water Divers, Marine Police, and eventually US Coast Guard air support turned up no leads, until the body was discovered on St. John’s eastern rocky bay.
In the meantime, Charisma had remained docked at Village Cay Resort Hotel & Marina at Tortola while police investigated and interviewed crewmembers — some of whom had reportedly been with Mr. Kwiatkowski the night of his disappearance.
A coroner's inquest has begun. The police press release on the death is here
