The World's Best Cruise Port
Port Everglades, Florida
By Lena Hunt
Holding the title of “The World’s Best Cruise Port,” Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida also carries a misleading name. When people hear the name “Everglades”, they think of the wilderness Florida Everglades with its wetlands ecosystem. Although it is not a secluded wildlife adventure, it does have some unique adventures of its own.

Hoarding over 2,190 acres including 448 acres of submerged land, Port Everglades encompasses Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Dania Beach, and the non-business areas of Broward County. The location is perfect as it is 28 miles from Miami, 48 miles away from West Palm Beach, and 312 miles from Jacksonville. All this means that is also not to far from the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport and to the main highway through Florida's I-595.
This makes it not too far from anything as well as being as exotic and as southerly as you can get for the mainland United States.
Not only is this port a hub for the cruise industry with over 5,300 cruise ships annually, Port Everglades has an increasing business in containerized cargo. As a hub for the storage and distribution of petroleum this Floridian port is also a favorite of the United States Navy.
Ahhh .... cruising. That's the main reason people come to this port. There are daily cruises and multi-day cruises. The most popular day cruises take passengers to beautiful Bahamas. The minute you barefoot-step on to the soft sand of these islands and your gaze meets the sparkling blue water, you will fall in love. The freedom of being able to do it all or do nothing at all and to do it casually or glamorously AND internationally is all yours in the exotic-but-not-too-distant Bahamas.
Your imagination is your limit when it comes to the multi-day cruises. Go totally Atlantic coastal, travel to Australia and New Zealand, or take a Mediterranean cruise to Europe. Head to the pile of rocks along the equator in the Pacific Ocean south of known as the Galapagos Islands.
This is a nature lover's paradise, to say the least, with rare animal and plant life unknown to any other areas on this planet. Even cruise the Caribbean islands Italian style with the cruise line Costa cruises. Have the best of both worlds!
Now don't forget the unlimited international array of food on these cruises. You don't even have to leave your ship to travel cuisine extraordinaire! Whether near or far and regardless of what cruise line you choose, Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida will see that you get your heart's desire.
