Being the Southern Florida Cruise Port Specialist, I focus on the ports in southern Florida yet I recently discovered JAXPORT, the Jacksonville Port Authority, while visiting Jacksonville, Florida. It is worthy of being featured at Cruise Bruise. Situated a short fifteen-minutes away from the Jacksonville International Airport is this international trade seaport of Northeast Florida and has many cargo terminals for cargoes such as automobiles, bulk, and refrigeration. The port also has a local ferry service and a cruise passenger service.

A temporary cruise facility was built in 2003 to offer cruise services for passengers. This 63,000 square foot facility opens at 11:00 a.m. for passengers and is located at 9810 August Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32226. It is near Hecksher Drive and State Road 9-A in the northeast section of Jacksonville.
While waiting for your ship to arrive, there are many hotels, attractions, and things to do in the area. Jacksonville is a combination of metropolitan and life near the water. The stretches of sandy beaches and water everywhere boasts amazing bridges, a river so big that it seems more like a lake or small see, plenty of hotels and restaurants to choose from, and shopping galore. (Please check out my previous article about the incredible, rare outlet shopping malls in this area.) City intermixed with industry infused with the Florida coastal way of life and Southern hospitality, you'll be sure to find something for everyone in your cruise group. Or just for yourself.
The Carnival Fascination cradles 2,052 passengers from north Jacksonville to the Bahamas (Freeport and Nassau) and to Half Moon Cay and Key West. Four and five day cruises are offered. This beautiful ship will begin 7-day cruises to Grand Turk, Nassau, and Half Moon Cay in 2011. The Carnival Fascination is indeed fascinating as she is the only cruse ship that sails year round from Jacksonville, Florida. She brags a 12,000 square foot spa with the latest spa treatments and is an excellent ship for first-time cruising passengers.
She offers a 1,200 square-foot conference room for meetings, Bogart's patisserie for delicious gourmet coffees and pastries, and an Internet cafe with ten work stations. A fascinating art gallery and high-tech exercise equipment are new features which have been added to this ship. Children will enjoy the miniature golf course, three pools, and the Children's World play area. Teens will have an awesome time in the teen club.

The Carnival Fascination will entertain and indulge her guests as she takes them to destinations in the Bahamas and to Key West. Gorgeous Freeport/Lucaya sits on the dreamy Grand Bahama island, which is the second most visited island in the Bahamas. It is the resort center, all developed into a modern city loaded with amazing architecturally designed hotels and resorts, water sports facilities, a major casino, plenty of night life, world cuisine restaurants, and scuba diving facilities and operations. Let's not forget to the mention the Bahama breezes, moonlit nights, and long stretches of pure white sand and turquoise blue waters.
Carnival Cruise Line will take you to its private island Half Moon Cay, Bahamas. Only two percent of this island has been developed and it is an international bird sanctuary. Cruise passengers can explore this private little piece of paradise on horseback along the beach and in the surf, visit the Half Moon Lagoon Aqua Park, and explore on foot through the nature trails. Stingrays are amazing sea creatures to enjoy as well. And, of course, lounging in private beachfront cabanas and gazing at the sea is also another great option.
As the Southern Florida Cruise Port Specialist, I found it worth my while to wonder up north and explore JAXPORT and I highly recommend that you do the same. It truly is a nice discovery!
