Smoke pouring from Carnival SplendorCarnival Paradise on the way to Santa Catalina Island via our cruise ship tracker, heads south passing both Catalina and San Clemente islands, before turning back north.United States Navy loads supplies delivered by Sysco, that are headed to the Carnival Splendor. Being loaded is canned SPAM, Pop Tarts, Canned crab and other yummy delights ordered by CCL. This is what Carnival Corp ordered from Sysco, which was delivered by the U.S. NavyOther ships in the area go about their business as Splendor awaits three tugs that are suppose to move her into Ensenada, Mexico, where passengers would board a bus. Giving that hair-brained scheme more thought, CCL decides to have the tugs take Splendor to San Diego.Splendor now being guided by tugs, heads for San Diego, beginning to show up on the Cruise Bruise Cruise Ship TrackerVia our cruise ship tracker, the estimated arrival is calculated at break of day on Nov 11, 2010. We were right on the money, as the ship was making an average speed of 6.1 knots per hous, with a top speed of 7 knots an hour and a minimum speed of 4 knots an hour, far exceeding company announcementsSplendor makes her turn east, preparing to enter San Diego after the sun rises and they get the approval from the Harbor MasterFrom the Cruise Bruise Cruise Ship Tracker, we see the track Splendor took. To right at the opening of the channel is Coronado Island, which isn't an island at all. The eastern edge is Coronado Naval Air Station. Across the channel the U.S. Navy submarine base. The channel entrance is well guarded.The media was waiting before dawn, it was a who's who of satellite trucks, my truck is bigger than your truck.Splender rounds the turn at Coronado Island and can now be seen from the dock where a swarm of reporters await.Six tugs pushing her she edges towards the cruise ship dock at San Diego, CaliforniaAs Splender got close, the media got anxious and crowded the edge of the dock thinking they might get some interviews. But, interviews were hard to come by as passengers exited into waiting transportation, beyond the reach of the media.Inching ever near, soon passengers will begin telling their storiesBuses are lined up waiting to take passengers to their next leg of their journey home.Tugs hold Splendor at the dock, first three, then two, and by nightfall just one.Splendor casts her shadow on the city of San Diego, in more ways than one. The city is not likely to forget the day the Splendor Circus came to town.All tied up, but three tugs keep her shoved against the dock just in case. Only  afew die-hards remain.8:15pm PDT Splendor movement aboard and on dock is still going on, but has slowed down. In the last hour before this shot, some buses have left but a few remain as seen at far right back.Friday November 12, 2010 as the sun rises Splendor awaits the next part of journey. The buses, shuttle buses and taxis are gone with only a couple media outlets still on the scene.
